We were delighted to welcome colleagues from the European Space Agency to our Glasgow office and lab recently as part of the ongoing progress toward OPS-SAT VOLT’s Integration Readiness Review (IRR) — the next major milestone on the road to launch.
Over three days, the teams worked through a highly productive agenda, including a comprehensive review meeting and demonstrations of the key elements of the VOLT payload and ground systems:
Command and control of the FlatSat
Our acquisition and tracking algorithm for beamsteering
Loopback of the optical transceiver system for classical optical communications
Image capture and download from VOLT’s imaging systems
High-speed data transfer over our SpaceWire router
Commanding the satellite through RF
A live QKD demonstration
The outcome of the visit was extremely positive, and we’re proud of the progress the mission is making.
A huge thank you to Stijn Mast, Samuele Malta, and Nikolaos Lyras of ESA for their time, insight, and collaboration throughout the review.
