On 5th June 2025, Craft Prospect was thrilled to welcome Andrew Bailey, the Governor of the Bank of England, to our offices at the Fairfield Heritage Centre in Glasgow for a roundtable exploring the evolution of the space sector in Scotland, which we co-hosted with Space Network.
Andrew and his team, including Will Dowson, Agent for Scotland, Adam McGeoch, Deputy Agent for Scotland and Martin Seneca, Economic Advisor to the Governor, joined representatives from some of Scotland’s leading space companies to discuss opportunities arising in today’s international marketplace and explore how the space industry can drive growth in other areas of the economy, including finance, insurance, quantum technology, and AI.
The roundtable’s roster included our Managing Director Steve Greenland, our Head of Commercial Hina Khan, Chair of the Craft Prospect Board Yvette Hopkins, and Space Network CEO Andy Campbell, as well as Richard McKay of AAC Clyde Space; Clare Rumsey of Omanos Analytics; Peter Gillespie of Space Aye; Charles Platts of Orbex; Debbie Strang of SaxaVord Spaceport; Philip McLachlan of Digital Content Analysis Technology Ltd; and Robin Sampson of Trade in Space.
Andrew Bailey stated, “It was useful to hear about the growth opportunities, and related challenges, within the space sector both from companies creating the infrastructure and those planning to use it. The level of innovation and the enthusiasm to develop new activities was really good to see.”
Yvette Hopkins said, “Craft Prospect was delighted to welcome and host Andrew Bailey, Governor, Bank of England, and fellow space sector leaders at our historic offices and labs. This was an exquisite opportunity to exchange ideas, to showcase Space as a General-Purpose Technology, and highlight Craft Prospect’s application of emerging technologies in Space through Quantum and AI. We were enlightened by the Bank of England’s genuine inquisitive exploration into the UK Space Sector.”
Andy Campbell commented, “It was an honour to host the Governor of the Bank of England and his colleagues in Scotland to meet with a number of space sector leaders. As the market is poised for substantial growth, estimated to be worth $1.8 trillion over the next 10 years globally, Scotland and the UK are well placed to be a leading space nation on the international stage. Dialogue at the highest levels is essential to ensuring the space sector is able to play its full part in an economically prosperous future.”
